Rotary International is the largest and oldest international service organization in the world. With over 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries, it is a respected network of people whose overall mission is to build bridges of friendship, tolerance and understanding and to make the world a more peaceful place in which to live.
The Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program, which began in 1972, has become one of the most respected exchange programs in the world. Each year more than 7000 students from over 80 countries participate in the program.
The strength of the program lies in its international network of thousands of Rotary volunteers who donate their time and resources to help improve their local communities and our international community. The RYE program provides an opportunity for outstanding students from all walks of life to study abroad for an academic year, with the local Rotary Club underwriting most of the costs. Only exceptional students, who are qualified, are invited to represent Rotary as Youth Exchange students.
The Rotary Youth Exchange Program costs MUCH LESS than other programs. This is due to the fact that the program is made up largely of volunteers. As a general rule, the exchange costs in the neighborhood of $5000 – $6000 total.excluding any Rotary trips that are offered. Compare this to AFS or YFU (Youth for Understanding) or other programs.
Rotary students normally live with three (3) host families during the year – not just one family, and there are several advantages to this arrangement. First, the student has a well-rounded experience by being exposed to a broader cross-section of the community since each family will have a different lifestyle and perspective. Second, in the event that the student and one of the host families don’t adjust well to one another, alternate families have already been identified and are prepared to “step in” and take the student into their homes immediately.
Rotary Youth Exchange is not for everyone. However, for those exceptional students who are mature, academically successful, adventuresome, and ready to meet the challenges of living abroad for a year, the RYE Program will be a mind-expanding, life changing experience.

The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program
Offers merit-based scholarships to spend an academic year in countries that may include Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Philippines, Senegal, Thailand, and Turkey. This program increases understanding between people in the United States and people in countries with significant Muslim populations. Students live with host families, attend local high schools, do community service, and complete a capstone project. Applications for academic year 2016-17 programs are due December 1, 2015. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX)

Offers merit-based scholarships for an academic year in Germany. The program was established in 1983 to celebrate German-American friendship based on common values of democracy. Students live with host families, attend local schools, and participate in community life in Germany. Deadlines for U.S. applicants range from December 1, 2015 to January 15, 2016, depending on state of residency.

The costs for Ciee programs vary and they offer merit and financial need scholarships covering 10%-100% of program tuition.

Keio Academy of New York: US - Japan Summer Cultural Experience
Keio Academy of New York is a private co-educational, independent secondary school chartered by both the University of the State of New York and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan, and is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent School (NYSAIS). It is the only overseas operation affiliated with Keio University.
The Summer Program was launched in 2008 to further expand Keio Academy of New York's efforts towards advancing bilingual and bicultural education. Open to middle and high school students from Japan, the US, and the rest of the world, Keio Academy offers opportunities for close interaction between participants to encourage understanding and learning between different cultures and backgrounds.
Nacel Open Door:
Nacel Open Door, Inc. (NOD) is dedicated to promoting international understanding and language education. NOD believes it is essential for young people to develop a deeper awareness of their role as citizens of the world through direct experience in other cultures and languages. Homestays are the foundation of most NOD programs. The friendships that result from living as a member of a Host Family encourage continued communication and understanding of other peoples. NOD is committed to providing accessible and affordable programs which include the Academic Year Program, Private School Program, Short Term Programs and Americans Abroad program.

SAI - High School & Gap Year Study Abroad Programs
SAI offers programs for high school and gap students to complete college-level coursework. High school programs are available in the summer, and provide a fully supervised unforgettable experience. Gap programs are available in the semester and academic year, and provide a gentle introduction to college-level life and courses. High school and gap programs provide strong on-site services to ensure that the proper support is in place for students to thrive.
